YOI Kicks Off GOTV Season
After being trained on utilizing digital tools for community outreach, our Fellows conducted voter campaigns to witness the impact that effectively integrating data and technology can have on building civic engagement work. In just a week, they reached out to over 6,000 potential BIPOC voters on Long Island! Simone, one of our YOI 2021 Fellows, reflects on her first time phonebanking and texting in the vlog below.
“Hi, my name is Simone, and I'm part of the YOI cohort. I wanted to apply to the YOI program to learn more about civic engagement and be more involved. Last week we did phone banking and texting. That was my first time doing phone banking and texting, and it was really, really interesting! We gave information to people—to voters—about the ballots, and we had a lot of responses back from them. One of my favorite parts was realizing that a lot of people definitely are informed, and there's people who aren't informed who are willing to learn more about it and who answered the call or the text and were very interested.”
